If you are a person that struggles with a pornography problem, whether it is a full-blown addiction or not, you are not alone. Many people struggle with the exact same issue and want to make a change in their lives. However, not everybody is ready to take that next step in dealing with their problem. That step, of course, is going to pornography counseling. Getting counseling for your pornography problem can seem daunting and scary, but it does not have to be. Get to know some of the facts about getting counseling for your pornography problem. Then, you can be sure you get your first counseling appointment scheduled as soon as possible.

There Is No Need for Embarrassment

First and foremost, you should never be embarrassed about your problem or going to counseling. There is no need to feel shame or embarrassment about talking to a counselor about your problem.

Counselors are professionals and they have met and helped people with a wide variety of addictions and problems. And pornography addiction, in their eyes, is going to be no different than being told you have an alcohol or drug addiction or even a nicotine addiction. Addiction is addiction, and you should not feel judged by your counselor.  They are there to be a source of support and help and most importantly, non-judgment. So, be ready to go to counseling and try to push those feelings of shame and embarrassment aside as much as you can.

You Need to Be Open to Get the Right Help

It is a natural tendency of people struggling with any issue to downplay the problem. They try to minimize it and make it less of a big deal than it actually is.

Try not to do this in therapy. To give you the right level of help, your counselor needs to know the extent of the problem. If you watch or engage with pornography for hours a day, don't say it's only a few times a week or downplay how long you watch it when you do watch.

The more your counselor knows about your problem, the more they can help. Be open and honest about why you are there and about how much pornography affects your personal and professional life. This will help them know how much help to give you. Now that you know a bit about getting counseling for your pornography addiction, you can schedule your first counseling appointment right away.
